Rating Engines are not the same as Rules Engines, usually Insurance Companies have a Rating Engine, which is either Service Enabled or is on the Service Enablement roadmap. Rules engines can replace the legacy rating engine if required, but in most cases enabling the existing Rating Engine with well designed Web Services is the better appraoch. Rate maintenance must be easy or this will delay time to market of new or existing risk or product rates.
